Innovation in the Workplace


Creativity is the nature of creating something new, wither a new idea, concept or method. Innovation is using creativity to enhance performance of a process, person, team or organization.

Why isn't there more Innovation in the workplace?

Maybe leadership is unwilling to allow someone else to offer the opportunity for fear of many different things. Maybe not enough input from employees. Or maybe it's leadership think it takes too much time from the work environment. Even culture may not encourage innovation.

Benefits of Innovation:

  • Can keep you ahead of the competition

  • Let's employees know how much you value their ideas and input

  • Increased chance of attracting customer base

Importance of Innovation:

  • Help businesses stand out among the market

  • Help businesses grow

Ways to promote Innovation:

  • Encourage ideas (suggestion box)

  • Look for employees who understand your vision and align with your culture and are passionate about their work.

  • Stress the importance of creativity for the business

  • Make sure they understand how innovation keeps the company competitive

  • Make time for new ideas (brainstorming sessions)

  • Act on good ideas

  • Reward creativity, winning ideas

You don't know what the next "big idea" you may miss out on without encouraging creativity and innovation in the workplace.
